Kerala Blasters manager David James will now recruit players that “really want to come to India” following Dimitar Berbatov’s exit from the club.
The former Spurs and Manchester sport United marksman accused James of being a “wannabe” coach and also criticised his style of play before leaving the Indian Super League side after just one season.
His scathing comments haven’t fazed James, however.
The former Portsmouth man played in goal during a 26-year playing career, which saw him collect 53 England caps between 1997 and 2010, and he has admitted the recent episode with Berbatov opened his eyes as to what he’d look for in players in the future.
“The recruitment policy will be very different going forward. The first question sport I ask everybody is if they really want to come to India. If they don’t want to come to India and they are not sure about it, then we don’t need them at this football club,” he told Goal.
“Every fan needs to know that every player on that field wants to play for Kerala Blasters. They are not just visiting India for a nice holiday or a trip.
